Effective Acne Products That My Sister Use

My baby sister Joyce used to have the most beautiful skin in the family. But, as she grew older and went to college, she went through a lot of lifestyle changes that took its toll on her skin. These changes included: staying out late (for hospital duty or night-out), school load stress, smoking, drinking and bad skin habits (like, sleeping without removing her makeup).

Aside from her face that always looked tired, she also had some pretty bad breakouts on her forehead and cheeks. She’s not used to having bad skin so she begged our mom to bring her to the dermatologist.

The first two dermatologists weren’t able to do anything to help her from her plight. She was given harsh acne medications that made her breakout even more and left some ugly marks. It also made her face as red as a tomato.

It was only until she graduated and found a job at one of the most famous skin center in our country that she found a solution to her acne problems. Their in-house dermatologist prescribed 4 effective acne products, and according to my sister, it worked wonderfully on her skin. She said that she never had clearer skin until now.

But, a word of warning for acne sufferers out there. These products were prescribed by a licensed dermatologist after examining my sister’s acne condition. She has combination skin and suffered from mild acne with scarring. It’s best to consult your own dermatologist first before trying out any of these products.

Joyce’s Acne Care Products

Product 1: Acne Aid Soap – she used this as her daily cleanser. You’ll easily find this at any drugstore. Look for the Stiefel Laboratories brand. It’s a bit expensive but very effective. Use sparingly if you have sensitive skin.

Product 2: PanOxyl Benzoyl Peroxide Cream- it’s different from the PanOxyl Gel. It’s actually a keratolytic cream. It is applied thinly on the affected area every morning after cleansing. She then wears sunblock to protect her skin from sun damage. If you didn’t know, benzoyl peroxide can make the skin sun sensitive.

Product 3: Tyrosinase Inhibitor 5% Cream – it’s a prescription brand that helps stop melanin production. It is also used to whiten underarms and treat melasma. She bought this from Belo Skincare Center. She mixes this with Stieva-A and uses it at night. This helped fade her scars and hyper-pigmentation.

Product 4: Stieva-A Cream – is a tretinoin cream, a form of Vitamin A that is used to cure acne by peeling the skin, thus unclogging the pores and regulating the skin’s production of oil. It also increases skin cell reproduction to reveal new skin faster. Joyce experienced some peeling so she had to avoid using too much makeup for a while and loaded her skin with sun protection.

She also made a couple of healthy lifestyle changes which made this regimen worked even better. Joyce exercised a lot, reduced her late night partying, alcohol intake, and most importantly, she quit smoking!
